Six months later. Boy oh boy – lots of positive news. Since the last update, my work projects did come through and there was a short time in the summer that I had 3 projects going at once. That was a bit much and one fell apart thank goodness. But, as I said before it’s really good to be busy. A new one just came through today so I’m back to having two through October, at least.
I was fortunate this summer (planets aligned, good karma or whatever), to spend 5 weeks in the south. I was at our place, Shipwatch, for the first 2 weeks. I then moved to my parent’s house on the beach just down the street from Shipwatch. I was there for a week. Then, for the fourth week, I drove to Asheville with my parents and spent a week with them. It was wonderful weather and we did some really fun things. Asheville is a great town! Then, for the fifth week, I went back to Shipwatch for my “annual” girls week. Annual is in quotes because we were missing some people this year and the girls who did come couldn’t spend the whole week there. We had some comings and goings but it worked out great. While we were at Shipwatch, I got to experience Uber for the first time. Whoever invented that business model was a genius. I ended up taking it twice and both times were good experiences.
We tried something new when we were at the beachouse to help me get to the beach. It was a wheelchair contraption with humongous wheels. It was somewhat comical to look at but it helped me go to and fro to the beach. In fact, three of the days Tom pushed me from the Beachhouse to Shipwatch on the beach so I could use the pool. You all know me, I didn’t miss a day of my pool aerobics. It felt great and I could feel I was getting stronger. My gauge for this was the amount of effort it took to get into the pool and to get out of the pool. It ended up being less and less as the days moved forward. Then when I went back to Shipwatch with my girlfriends, they got to take turns pushing me over the sand dunes and steering a different wheelchair. We had a hoot of a time with that – they got to push and I got to carry all of our beach stuff. So I guess it was an equal trade – sort of.
I’m feeling a bit stronger everyday. Still doing a little bit of driving (not as much as I’d like) and trying my best to practice walking independently. I do this drill everyday along with my stretching and balance exercises. And I’m in the pool if the temperature is over 70 degrees. Yes, I’m whimpy. I’ll admit it!
Kids are doing well. All are back in school. Mitch will graduate this December. He’s taking one in person class at CU Denver (my alma mater for my MBA) and 4 online classes. Ben is a junior in Fort Collins who changed his major from Biology to Environmental Ecological Sustainability (I think). And Beck is a junior in high school. He’s driving now (the third isn’t quite as scary as the first.) Now with 5 drivers in the household and 3 cars, it makes for some interesting negotiations. The college hunt for Beck will start this spring, I’m sure. He’s already going to SAT prep classes and the mail is starting to pile up on Universities. He just needs to focus on school for the next two years so he has options for college.
The other thing that seems to be taking up my time is Chicago Cubs baseball. Many of you know that Tom is a huge fan so we’ve got the major league game package. I don’t think we’ve missed one game this season. And now, they start on the playoff road. My favorite player is Dexter Fowler (used to be a Rockie and I liked him then), so I’m pulling for him especially. GO CUBS GO!!!
To end, once again, thanks for all of your love and support. It means the world to me to be surrounded by so much kindness. I hope this blog finds all of you safe, healthy, and happy. XOXOXOXO
